Lesson 2A: Video Lesson

After this section, you should:

• understand that limits are y-values that the function is approaching as x approaches its own value.
• realize that functions don’t have to exist (outside the domain) at the x value, yet a limit there CAN exist there.
• become comfortable with the limit notation and how to read it.
• be able to find the limit of a function given a graph.
• begin to recognize conditions when a limit doesn’t exist.
• begin to substitute values into limits (as long as it’s continuous!  More on that later!)
• begin to develop an understanding of how to think both algebraically and graphically about limits.
